Famous PeopleIs the race of fear gradually spreading among Disney’s top bosses? Behind the scenes, many stars would like to join the case that 36-year-old Scarlett Johansson has brought against the media giant. Entertainment attorney Matthew Belloni doubts her work could “open the door wide” and expects other actors and actresses to take action against the powerful movie giants.
Scarlett Johansson sued Disney after it emerged that the company was releasing the new movie “Black Widow” – in which she stars – simultaneously in theaters and via the streaming service. The 36-year-old actress had contractually agreed that the film would first appear exclusively in cinemas, because part of the profits would go to her. But now that viewers can also watch Disney+ at home, that amount is much less. Because this agreement was included in Scarlett’s contract, the actress decided to take legal action.
Meanwhile, attorney Matthew Belloni expects Johansson to set an example for other actors, Mail Online reports. Like “Black Widow”, for example, “Cruella” – starring Emma Stone – was also released on Disney+ around the same time that the movie hit US theaters. She also would like to take action now: “Emma Stone is weighing her options,” the attorney said.
to object
Actress Emily Blunt – currently seen on Jungle Cruise – has objected to Paramount’s decision to release her movie A Quiet Place Part II before agreeing to streaming service Paramount+. And last Friday, actor Gerard Butler sued No Image/Millennium Films, claiming he owed at least $10 million in profits from the 2013 action movie Olympus Fell.
Disney called the Scarlett case “sad and anxiousAccording to the company, Johansson’s act is an “insensitive disregard for the horrific and long-lasting global effects of the COVID-19 pandemic” and she has already received $20 million (€17 million) for her work. So she had already received “adequate compensation” for releasing the film on Disney +.
