On the last day of the Games, Bashir Abdi gave our country a climax in the marathon. Our compatriot finished third after a massive race and set the medal counter for Belgium at his maximum with seven pieces.
“It’s great to be greeted in this way,” Abdi said upon arrival at the airport. “It’s really great to see my family and friends here after 8 weeks.”
“The many sacrifices make my medal even more special. I am very happy that the many training efforts have been rewarded with bronze in the end,” our compatriot looked back on his impressive performance.
Barely a day after the race, Abdi landed again in Belgium. Did our compatriot already have time to celebrate his medal? “Very little. The precautions in Japan are very strict, but with the Belgium team I was really able to celebrate a little.”
Although the real party had yet to come, Abdi’s coronation ceremony was also something he would never forget. “I really got goosebumps when I got my medal. It was like a movie.”
“I am glad I was able to try it. Now I already know how such a party will work when I am on the podium again next time,” Abdi showed himself with ambition towards the future.
“Now I will recover, but the work does not stop. 2022 is also an important year, and in 2024 it will already be the Games in Paris. That will look like a home game. I hope the world is as well. By then, it is back to normal.” Joe returned Games come to life again 100 per cent.”
