The work was completed around 1.30pm, about an hour and a half later than planned. According to Virgo, this is still within the margins of planning, also because some work has already been done under the floors at the same time as the slip is being carried out, but there is not much additional room for an extension. After the roof sections are installed, the metro and train tracks should be ready for use again. On Monday, as the region’s summer vacation ends, the first metros and trains will start running again from 5 a.m.

Three of the six tracks have been decommissioned, but the others are still running. So the construction site, where the roof slid over the passenger tunnel, was too small. “At first, the parts went up centimeter by centimeter, and the more space created on the construction site because the concrete moved, the faster it went,” says Virgo.

In the future, the roof sections will form part of the roof of the second passenger tunnel, the Britten Corridor of the future public transit station. Work began on the job Thursday evening.
