A glitch in ad blockers Adblock and Adblock Plus appears to be the cause of delays on sites that have been widely complained about across the internet in recent days. Many of the delays have been reported mainly on YouTube, but it doesn't appear to be due to that platform.
Adblock and Adblock Plus developer Marwan Zibawi, States The reason for the delay has been found. There appears to be a bug in Adblock Plus version 3.22 and Adblock 5.17.0. Zibawi says a solution to the problems will be released “as soon as possible.”
Many users on Reddit and others believe that these delays occurred specifically on YouTube and were part of an intentional action by the video platform. The site previously stated that users with an ad blocker can expect a “suboptimal viewing experience.” For example, the video platform added code last year that made YouTube videos load slower for Adblock users.
But this time, YouTube seems to have nothing to do with the issue. Discover Ublock Origins developer Raymond Hill previously relied on Firefox's profiling tool. This showed performance issues on different sites. Hill states that the delay is especially noticeable on websites that update dynamically. In addition to YouTube, this also applies to Yahoo, the developer wrote.
