A rare bird is cut and eaten by a reality star

Rare bird

Participant Corey Jones had been trekking through New Zealand’s rugged nature for eight days when he spotted the bird. He attended Race for survival The reality stars have to survive forty days in nature during the grueling journey of 240 kilometers. Cory had neither eaten nor drunk anything in those days, and he caught the first bird that came his way. The bird became a legally protected weka.

Wekka is a large, brown flightless bird. Anyone who harms this animal can be fined up to US$100,000 and jailed for several years.

Hungry

“When you’re hungry and you see food running past you, it’s scary,” Corey explains of his act. “It’s not easy living in the New Zealand bush.” Corey says he later learned it was a protected bird, but he was “blinded” by hunger.

Participants in the program were warned: do not touch the protected plants and animals. Fines and penalties are for the candidates. Corey was immediately kicked off the show. The Justice Department will not prosecute him, but is still investigating what exactly happened.
