A series of conditions provide space for an addiction shelter Oosterwold · Omroep Almere

The addition to the housing proposal for addicts in Oosterwold appears to be paving the way for this controversial facility. Leifbar Almere has drawn up a list of conditions that will lead to a majority in the municipal council.

The amendment, which will be presented Friday morning, calls for an immediate search for other necessary locations for health care facilities. Municipalities in the region must also be involved. The parties supporting this want a strategic development plan for these new facilities.

It is also a call to stop in emergency situations when the facility appears unsuitable for individual customers. It calls for cooperation with local residents, for safety protocol, strict supervision and intervention options.

The proposal by Leifpar Almere was approved by the PvdA, GroenLinks, D66 and ChristenUnie. During the discussion on the controversial residential facility for addicts, it became clear that the SP, Party for the Animals and CDA also want to build a Protected Living Plus facility in Hippias van Elisweg in Oosterwold.

The council wants to provide housing for 36 addicts in the area. The plan has been met with strong protests from local residents. The new site is meant to relieve the current facility in the city centre. It is overcrowded and unsuitable for people who cannot tolerate many stimulants.

In the city council, there is strong support from the VVD and PVV for the objections of the Oosterwold residents. The VVD believes that the current location in the city is more suitable because the situation there has become more manageable and the PVV is calling for an industrial area. (File photo)
