A woman returns from vacation to discover that her house has been accidentally demolished outside

A homeowner is baffled after a company accidentally demolished her home in southwest Atlanta. Owner Susan Hodgson returned from holiday last month to find a pile of rubble in place of her family’s old possessions.

“I’m angry,” Hodgson said in an interview with The Associated Press. “I keep waking up and thinking: Is this all a joke or something? I’m just in shock.” A neighbor called her while she was away and asked if someone had been hired to demolish the vacant house. When Hodgson answered no, the neighbor discovered that the house had already been demolished.

When neighbors confronted the employees, they became disruptive. “They told her to shut up and mind her own business,” Hodgson recalls. Finally, she sent one of her relatives home to find out what was happening. When the person in charge at the construction site checked his permit, Hodgson said he admitted he was at the wrong address.

No solution and no communication

The matter was reported to the police, but the issue remains unresolved. The company responsible for the demolition has not yet contacted Hodgson. “How can people destroy someone’s property and then walk away? How can they think this is okay? I would like them to come and fix the problem they’ve caused,” Hodgson concluded.

The company said in a statement to WAGA-TV that it is investigating the incident and working to resolve it.
