Adidas is being criticized by animal rights activists. Activists say: “In order to make football boots with three stripes, kangaroos are horribly killed.”
Animal rights groups plan to organize a demonstration next Monday in front of the company's headquarters in Herzogenaurach, Germany.
According to an Adidas spokesperson, the use of kangaroo leather for the production of football boots is less than 0.5 percent. In addition, only leather from suppliers approved by the Australian Government will be used. “So they respect animal welfare and species protection,” she says.
According to activists, Adidas is the only major sports shoe maker that still uses kangaroo leather.
