Antwerp lost to Anderlecht 1-0 on Saturday. One phase in particular attracted attention: the red card received by Owen Fendall.
As the first half approached, Thorgan Hazard made a mistake as he tried to get back at Owen Vendhal. The Antwerp player stood up and walked towards the Anderlecht player. While the two men were standing face to face, the fourth official intervened.
Thorgan Hazard crashed to the ground. After the referee called the VAR screen, he decided to expel Fendal from the field.
In La Tribune, former referee Alexandre Bocot expressed his opinion on this red card. “First of all, there is a clear and obvious error on the part of Thorgan Hazard.”
“Then there is a clear head movement from Wendal. He hits Hazard, who makes very good use of his experience and the VAR by landing in spectacular fashion and drawing attention to the seriousness of the alleged facts.”
Pokot Hazim: The pictures indicate a red card. “The referee had no choice but to rule out Wendal based on his head movement. It is a valid red card. Leaving him on the pitch was not acceptable.”
