VRT weatherwoman Jacquot Broken (30) will compete against Charlotte Adigiri and Ghoga Powell tonight for the title of ‘World’s Smartest Person’, but she’s already won, to some extent. Twelve entries, no one can match this season. But: “I was lucky,” he says matter-of-factly.
“When you’re on TV, you know there are some expectations that come with it. But being on ‘The Smartest Person in the World’ was… Hot topic I never expected it to be like this. Even people who I haven’t heard from for a long time are suddenly sending me messages saying they support me,” laughs Jacquot-Brocken. She feels quite satisfied that she can consider herself among the top three players of the season, although VRT meteorologists are still “I was lucky that the questions were mostly in my area of knowledge,” she explains. “And if not, as with the history questions, I knew enough not to miss them.”

Jacquot – a chemist by training – had no set strategy for recent weeks. “I was repeating some things in each episode, following current events, and that was it,” she says. “I know that Joga Paul handled his engagement in a very structured way, but that wasn’t the case for me. I also decided for myself that I would not treat the final weeks any differently than ‘normal’ engagements. And also because I felt a slight difference between them. I was barely out of the loop One when the normal gameplay was over and then I had to go back to work. It was hard at times, but I enjoyed it a lot at the same time. I already feel like I’m falling into a black hole as of Friday.
Beautiful result
Last season, “The Smartest Person in the World” featured amazing nominees and consistent streams. Among such luminaries as Charlotte Adigiri, Jeroen Linders, and Alex Agnew, Jacquot has largely remained under the radar. Not that it made her any less efficient at the game. “I may not have been the most striking-looking of the candidates, but I ran twelve times,” she says. “Even if I don’t win, it’s a good result. Whatever happens next: I’m very proud of the course I’m playing.
Wet Christmas
Just before Christmas, there is no escape for Jacquot either: the question of whether Christmas will be white. “Unfortunately, I have to disappoint everyone who was hoping for snow,” she says. “If Christmas is anything to go by in Flanders, it will be particularly wet in the morning. After that it will remain dry, with clear spells. The weather is currently too mild for snow. But who knows, we might have a white Christmas next year.” And my second participation in “The Smartest Person in the World.” Interlocking fingers (He laughs).”
