André Hazes was fully revived during his performance at Middelkerke. In a full pop-up arena, the Dutch artist sang his father’s own songs. 4,200 fans were allowed into the ring and with the Covid Safe Ticket you can dance and celebrate to your heart’s content.
“I’m nervous, but oh thankful it’s possible again in Belgium,” Hazes told Het Laatste Nieuws right before the show. In the Netherlands he could play with a maximum of 1,250 men and they all had to stay in their seats. Hazes says he was so excited that he assembled the band an hour earlier to start the sound check.
During the show, he played pop like “She believes in me”, “De Vlieger” and “t Rode licht”. But in the middle of the concert, Hazes played an unprecedented scoop: “Wake me up” by De Kreuners.
The song was made specifically for VTM’s “The Best Of” and had to be kept a secret for a while. Hazes himself said, “I don’t know if I should bring this,” sounding just before the show. “We haven’t done this live broadcast before. But it’s a good song.”
