Those who want to start with the stable version of Android 15 will have to wait longer than initially thought. Google is aiming for a mid-October release.
Since the third beta of Android 15 in late June, Google has been using the term “platform stability.” By this, the search giant is indicating that all the features of the upcoming mobile operating system are included. Anyone participating as a beta tester will receive stability updates in the meantime. Google will include the results of each beta build in the next release until everything is stable enough to make Android 15 a year-round release for all users.
However, those who just bought a new Pixel 9 or any Pixel 6 or later device will have to wait a little longer to get Android 15 first. Google has now informed existing testers that the final stable version of Android 15 isn’t expected until mid-October. That’s later than expected. The instability of recent beta builds is hampering its early release ambitions.
Are you a beta participant with a Pixel phone (or any other eligible model)? From now on, you can ignore new updates within the program to seamlessly move to the stable version of Android 15 starting in October without a factory reset.
Those who install the updates will automatically participate in the further development of Android 15 after the stable release and will remain beta testers. Want to switch to the stable version after that? Then a factory reset is mandatory. The current firmware update explains this, so you don’t accidentally make the wrong choice.
Source code available next week
according to Robot body Independent Android platform developers will be able to access the Android 15 source code starting next week.
Android 15 includes a lot of interesting new features. This adds a private space to your phone and lets you lock apps behind an additional PIN. The new OS also includes an anti-theft lock that automatically detects when someone steals your phone from your hand.
Other new features include augmented reality in Google Maps, more secure phone calls and calls, and integration of third-party trackers into the Find My Device network.
