Apple may not be the first to have a 2nm chip after all

The fact that Apple launched the first 3nm chip (from TSMC) in the iPhone 15 Pro models with the A17 Pro processor does not seem to mean that the company will also launch the first 2nm chip (Via Android addresses).

It looks like Apple’s 2nm chip has been delayed. This information comes from a known leaker Revignus On X (Twitter).

Revegnus revealed this information in response to a comment posted by someone in one of his previous tweets, in which he stated that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 and Dimensity 9400 chipsets will still be 3nm chipsets. You can read Revegnus’ tweet below.

Android ahead of Apple this time?

Not only does Revegnus point out that Apple’s chip will be delayed, but it also indicates that there are plans on Android’s part to release a 2nm chip before Apple.

However, this will also take some time. If Revegnus’ previous prediction is correct and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 and Dimensity 9400 chipsets will still be 3nm chips, we will have to wait until at least 2025 to get new 2nm chips. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 has just been revealed, so the Gen 4 chip likely won’t launch until around this time in 2024. At best, we’ll have to wait until next year for the potential switch to 2nm.

The best chipsets you can currently find in smartphones, like Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and Apple’s A17 Pro, are already very powerful, so it’s not as if they’ll soon need a more powerful alternative. However, switching to a new, smaller chip usually also ensures better power efficiency, which is always a plus.
