The Royal Netherlands Institute for Marine Research (NIOZ) is looking for a driven, creative and curious AUV/ROV Technician for the National Marine Facilities (NMF) Support Team in Texel.
The Institute
The Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research (NIOZ) is the national oceanographic institute, conducting and promoting fundamental, pioneering, academically excellent and interdisciplinary applied marine research.
NIOZ focuses on scientific and social issues that are important to the functioning of the oceans and seas.
NIOZ acts as the National Marine Research Facilitator (NMF) for the Dutch scientific community.
Section
The National Marine Facilities (NMF) centralizes all activities related to sail preparation and supports marine research.
These activities include, among other things, the management and maintenance of ships in the fleet, the management and maintenance of marine equipment and equipment on board, but also the planning of sailing schedules and support for researchers in preparing missions on board research vessels.
In addition, many new research equipments are also being developed in consultation with science.
The fleet is currently being replaced apace and the range of scientific equipment is being expanded with gliders, AUVs (autonomous underwater vehicle) and ROVs (remotely operated vehicle).
Vacancy
As an AUV/ROV (Underwater Robotics and Underwater Equipment Operation and Maintenance) Technician you play a critical role at NIOZ.
You will work in the National Marine Facilities (NMF) Division and will be responsible for maintaining, repairing, testing and modifying electrical equipment needed for scientific research at sea and in our laboratories.
You will also participate in preparing and configuring equipment for missions.
In addition, you will participate in boat trips, where you will be responsible for operating, maintaining and troubleshooting underwater equipment, including gliders, AUVs and ROVs.
You will also maintain/create documentation, manuals and operating instructions for equipment.
• Operate and monitor underwater vehicles during research missions.
• Conducting periodic maintenance and repairs on equipment.
• Preparing and implementing calibrations and tests.
• Solving technical problems and faults.
• Documenting work done and collecting data.
The candidate
We are looking for a candidate with a completed MBO education at Level 4 or above in Marine Technology, Marine Officer, Electrical Engineering, Ocean Technology (Hydrography) or a similar discipline.
Preferably have experience as an electronics engineer for marine equipment, such as survey equipment or ROV.
Plus, you can work (safely) as a team player.
You have good communication, administrative and social skills and can easily relate to different personalities.
Due to the international composition of NIOZ, proficiency in English is essential.

the conditions
- The appointment at NIOZ is an appointment at NWO-I, for one year for 40 hours per week, which will be converted to an appointment for an indefinite period upon mutual consent.
- Fair rating on a scale of 7/8 according to the Collective Labor Agreement-WVOI, and integration into the scale depends on your work experience, education level and orientation.

- 338 vacation hours per year from a full-time work week of 40 hours.
