Belgium also won another medal on the final day of the European Cycling Championships, bringing the final total to 6. Lotte Kopecky briefly claimed her third title in the duathlon, but along with Catherine de Klerk had to leave France ahead in a thrilling final.
After yesterday's historic double, Lotte Kopecky was still hungry for dessert at the European Cycling Championships.
In the doubles event she formed a pair for Belgium with Catherine de Klerk. The duo has music heading into the Games, as evidenced by this European Championship.
The first stage of the pairing race was marred by two heavy falls. As a result, the British world champions, among others, were forced to leave the race.
De Clercq also collided with the track, but was able to take her place again on the restart. It will still play its part in the interesting second part of this match race.
Besides the French women, Belgium – thanks to some tremendous mid-range accelerations from Kopecky – was the only country to win an extra round.
So they fought among themselves for the gold medal in the sprint races, which France won thanks to a cunning racial sense. So there is no third European title for Kopecky, but silver with De Klerk is an excellent sign towards a duo race at the Games.
Devluchte again finished fifth in the keirin final
the Pioneering lady Belgian sprint record tycoon Niki Defluchte took action on this final day in her favorite event, the Keirin.
After winning the rehab, where the Julie Nicolas ship foundered, Delijme advanced from the semi-finals as a strong second place among the top 6 finalists.
Our compatriot did not get fifth place. I got caught at the start of the last lap and was able to change gears too late.
A new stamp on her 5-season involvement with Devluchte in a major league tournament. She also finished fifth in the European Championships and World Cup last year.
Anonymous Ghys finished the points race scoreless
With Robbe Ghys, there was hope of a third Belgian medal, but he excelled in his absence during the points race final.
At no time did the course turn in his favor. Even in the sprints, Guess was unable to qualify for the points classification.
An unknown 14th place with 0 points to his name was a disappointing result for our compatriot.
Deflushti: “Physically, there was a medal”
Nicky Deluge had to settle for fifth place in the Keirin once again in this European Championship.
“It's not pleasant. I had a feeling there was more to it, especially physically. But I couldn't push when I had to,” she admitted.
“I was able to gain confidence after my semi-final match. However, I should have shown more balls in the final. Could I have won a medal? Yes. Physically it was possible, but mentally it was less so. ”
