Whether you are behind the wheel every day, or intermittently on the road: a good navigation app is indispensable. We have tested a lot of apps and these are the best in our opinion. We also include some good alternatives.
Read on after the announcement.
This is the best navigation app for iPhone
However, the navigation app is the best for you, which is very personal. For example, some apps are ideal for motorists, but not so much for cyclists. Then there are also very comprehensive applications, but they fail in other areas.
So we have considered as many preferences as possible in the list below. You know what they say: So many people, so many desires. What is certain is that your next favorite navigation app is probably on the list.
1. Waze
Waze is the best navigation app for iPhone in our opinion, but not necessarily because the app itself is pretty good. Users are especially important. The Waze user community is very active and they keep each other informed about traffic jams, speed traps, speed cameras and other things that (could) affect your ride.
Moreover, the app does everything you would expect from a good navigation app. It gets you to your destination on time, looks well organized and also works well with CarPlay, Apple’s platform for you to use your iPhone on the go.
Also useful: Waze is very knowledgeable about local attractions. So the application is ideal for holidays, because you can plan itineraries around museums, monuments, and, for example, architectural monuments.
Waze also has drawbacks. For example, you cannot save offline maps, so you must always have an active internet connection to navigate. Now you can get around this drawback by uploading the track at home (if you’re connected to WiFi), but that’s not ideal.
It’s also a pity that the app can sometimes be overly optimistic when calculating access times. On the other hand, Waze excels at offering alternative times to go on the road. With this he tries to actively navigate you around traffic jams by showing that it is best to leave the house within an hour from now.
2. Google Maps
It’s a deal, but Google Maps It is an excellent alternative to Waze, which by the way also owns the parent company of the search engine. Unlike Waze, Maps has an offline mode, which makes it more suitable for a vacation outside the EU, or if you have a small data package.
We also have very little to say about the navigation quality. However, Google Maps is sometimes a bit dated, especially if you live in a busy city center for example. In hectic traffic situations, Waze is often more modern. This is, of course, due to the previously discussed community behind the app.
Moreover, Google Maps is also more comprehensive than Waze. When commuting, you can choose walking, cycling, car or public transportation routes. So the app is very useful when you are abroad, because you just have to select a destination: Google Maps calculates how to get there.
3. Apple Maps
Apple Maps isn’t necessarily the best iPhone navigation app, but it’s the easiest. The app is standard on your device, so you don’t have to download anything. Therefore, Apple Maps, also called Apple Maps, is ideal when you are looking for a simple navigation app without much fuss.
The biggest advantage of Maps is that it is an Apple product. So the app works well with files CarplayAnd the siri It is also available on other devices such as the Apple Watch.
The biggest drawback of Apple Maps is that the app isn’t that big. For example, it cannot find all corporate addresses. It is also unfortunate that the app receives so many updates from Apple, but these updates rarely come to the Netherlands or much later. So Apple Maps is an especially good alternative if you spend a lot of time in the US, for example.

4. Flash Master
Just like Waze too Flash Master Large group of users behind them. Originally Dutch Navigation does everything in its power to keep you informed of all traffic conditions while planning your trip and on the way. Therefore, Flitsmeister is ideal for people who score an occasional fine, and wish to prevent this in the future.
Users pass speed cameras, speed traps and other situations at lightning speed, so that you are fully aware of what is happening on the road.
Flitsmeister also has a built-in corner post. Once you park your car, you don’t have to search for a payment station, but simply turn on the timer in the app. Once you’re back in the car, you set the parking alarm to stop again and don’t pay a cent more than necessary.

Also worth it
There is no better app for navigation. There are dozens (if not hundreds) of software in the App Store, each with its own unique features, advantages, and disadvantages. We think the above navigation apps will give you a long way, but the alternatives below are definitely worth mentioning.
sygic
Sygic is also a very nice navigation app, but it is not free. To be able to use all the functions, you must have a subscription of €19.99 per year. You can then download country route maps so that you can navigate offline and receive current traffic information along the way.
Sygic’s absolute plus is the realistic presentation. This allows you to see what the streets look like while driving and how, for example, a turn extends. For this job, the company works with the Dutch company TomTom. It’s also great to see the silhouettes of buildings on the go.
Another “fun” feature of Sygic is head up. The navigation system is displayed on the windshield of your vehicle. All in all, Sygic is a very complete navigation app. Whether or not you wait for these bells and whistles is basically a personal decision.

Maps.me
Maps.me is also an excellent navigation app. It uses OpenStreetMap, a popular alternative to Google Maps. OpenStreetMap is run by volunteers and anyone can contribute to improvements, so it works a bit like Wikipedia.
If you are looking for very accurate maps, Maps.me is the best navigation app. You can even show house numbers from buildings. This makes Maps.me ideal for delivery drivers, for example, because you can search for addresses quite easily even in busy city centers.
These details are also a direct drawback. Maps.me is so detailed that it gets crowded quickly. If you don’t mind, Maps.me is an excellent navigation app for you. For example, it has an offline mode, travel guides for when you’re on vacation and it’s free (with ads).
