Testaankoop analyzed the effectiveness of 14 50/50+ facial sunscreens, and it appears that 6 products do not provide the protection stated on the packaging.
The consumer organization has checked whether the protection against UVA and UVB rays matches what is stated on the packaging. Both cause skin cancer. Testing shows that the six facial sunscreens below do not provide the sun protection stated on the packaging.
One product that does not provide the required protection against UVA rays: ISDIN Fotoprotector FusionWater Magic SPF50.
Four of them fall short of the promised protection against UVB rays: Lancaster Sun Sensitive Milky Fluid SPF50; Biotherm Waterlover Facial Sunscreen SPF50+; Rituals Invisible Sun Protection Face Cream SPF50+; Nivea UV Sensitive Face 50.
One product does not provide enough protection against UVA and UVB rays: Vichy Capital Soleil Velvet Protective Cream SPF 50+.
“It is unacceptable that every year we discover products that do not meet the protection stated on the packaging,” says Laura Claes, spokeswoman for Testaankoop. “We test extensively in independent laboratories and according to established standards, yet our results differ significantly from what the manufacturers themselves indicate.”
Testaankoop submitted the results of the analyzes to the Federal Public Service of Public Health.
