Bitboy Crypto, a well-known but controversial crypto commentator, shared his views on Ripple’s (XRP) recent legal victory against the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
In an interview with Thinking Crypto, Bitboy Crypto, also known as Ben Armstrong, suggested that the whole thing was staged from the start.
Controversial claim from Bitboy
The years-long lawsuit against Ripple ended last Wednesday with a $125 million settlement. Despite the case being officially closed, many view Ripple as the moral winner. Ben Armstrong, better known as Bitboy Crypto, now claims that he always believed the Ripple case was never a real legal battle. According to him, the outcome was carefully orchestrated to make XRP the first fully regulated cryptocurrency, allowing it to seamlessly integrate into the U.S. banking system.
“There was no chance that this wouldn’t work for Ripple. It had to be regulated. Everything had to look normal and legitimate. The people in power always make sure that everything goes according to plan,” Armstrong said.
Furthermore, Armstrong explains that while Bitcoin is considered a commodity, the situation for XRP was different. According to him, the legal battle with the SEC was aimed at legitimizing XRP so that it would be accepted by banks and other financial institutions. The lawsuit could have helped prove that XRP has been thoroughly researched and tested. However, it is unclear exactly what Armstrong is basing this theory on, so it is wise to take his words with a grain of salt.
Future of XRP
Now that the lawsuit is over, Armstrong is optimistic about XRP’s future. He said that with the “dark cloud” over Ripple gone, XRP now has a clearer path to growth. He also notes that it’s remarkable that despite the legal battles, XRP has remained among the top 10 cryptocurrencies in recent years.
However, Armstrong is not without controversy. In the past, he has been guilty of promoting shady crypto projects and spreading potentially misleading information. Additionally, his reputation has been damaged by various legal disputes. Despite this, Armstrong has a large fan base in the crypto community.
