A Brussels Airlines plane was unexpectedly forced to return to Zaventem Airport about an hour after take-off on Monday afternoon. The pilot was said to be fine.
It is a plane that took off from Brussels Zaventem Airport on Monday in the direction of Lomé, the capital of Togo, and will stop in the Ghanaian capital, Accra. But an hour later the pilot fell ill. Then the plane was flying over Paris and it was decided to return to Brussels. “The co-pilot took over after that,” said Kim Dainen, a spokesman for Brussels Airlines. Landing in Paris was not necessary, according to the spokesperson. In such cases, we always review the situation. For example, if we had a pregnant woman on the ship who had to give birth immediately, we might arrive as quickly as possible. But if we can, we’ll go back to Brussels.”
The co-pilot returned the plane to Zaventem, where the pilot received medical care. Then we called in another pilot who was able to resume the flight with the entire crew and passengers.
Brussels Airlines will not publish any details about the medical condition of the pilot, but the spokesperson confirms that he has no symptoms of Covid-19.
