Coming to the Netherlands is still uncertain
BYD's sub-brand YangWang settles in Europe. In Geneva, the impressive YangWang U8 is presented to the European public, an all-electric SUV with a powertrain of around 1,200 hp.
YangWang is a sub-brand of Chinese giant BYD. With YangWang, BYD says it is targeting the premium corner of the automotive world. At the beginning of 2023, we were introduced virtually to YangWang for the first time, which then introduced the U9 and U8 models. The U9 is an electric supercar, and the U8 is an all-electric SUV with an impressive drivetrain. Last year, BYD's Dutch importer (Louwman) indicated that BYD had no plans to bring YangWang to Europe. During the Geneva Motor Show, BYD is introducing its YangWang sub-brand to the European public to great fanfare. He lifts the YangWang U8 onto the platform.
The YangWang U8 is a 5.32-metre-long hybrid SUV with a relatively modest 2.0 four-cylinder engine on board. This four-cylinder engine produces 272 horsepower, but this power source in no way drives the wheels. The 2.0 acts as a generator and charges a 49.05 kWh battery. The battery, in turn, powers four 299-horsepower electric motors, each of which is responsible for one wheel. The result: system power is 1,196 hp and 1,280 Nm. This means that the U8, which weighs around 3.5 tons, reaches 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds. violently.
Is YangWang coming to Holland? This is still the question. Right now, the brand is in Geneva to introduce itself to the European audience and show what it has to offer. YangWang – whose name means something like “like” – bases all of its models on BYD's e4 platform. The YangWang U8 has been available for order in China since November 2023. More than 3,600 units have been delivered since then.
BYD created the design of the U8 and the U9 supercar in Europe. AutoWeek recently showed you the YangWang U7: an electric sedan whose design is now also created on our continent. So don't be surprised if the U7 arrives in Europe (too). Maybe even to Holland!
