It’s been circling the aisles for a long time, but now Caden Groves has confirmed it himself: the Australian will no longer play for Alpecin Desonnink next year. Groves’ name has long been linked with Astana Kazakhstan.
Groves is currently in his second season with Alpecin-Deceuninck, having switched from Team BikeExchange-Jayco AlUla (then) in the winter of 2022. Under the wing of brothers Philipp and Christoph Ruudhoeft, Groves has won stages at the Giro d’Italia (1x), Vuelta a España (4x), Tour de Catalunya (2x) and was the best at the Volta Limburg Classic.
“It feels very good to be leading this team, but I have already signed a contract for next year,” said the speedster from Spain – where he is competing in the Vuelta a España – in a conversation with. The newspaper“So I have a new team, and it will be announced soon.”
On the way to Astana?
according to Cycling News Groves Alpecin-Deceuninck leaves for a Kazakh adventure in Astana, Kazakhstan. Team manager Alexander Vinokourov’s team has secured a new investor with Chinese company XDS, thus receiving a new financial boost. XDS, the carbon products manufacturer, has committed to the formation for at least five years.
