Catapults and shooting stars bid farewell to Peter van de Veer at Sportpaleis

Not one, but two famous heads soared into the sky. Parade of stars. And a large purple quarry. Peter van de Veer (50)’s farewell party at Sportpaleis was like the (former) radio maker himself: a little flowery.

Eight o’clock. That’s how long the Thanksgiving party at Sportpaleis lasted. On Friday morning Peter van de Veer gave his final morning show at MNM, after thirteen years of service. Prior to that, he was already a strong stand-in for Studio Brussel. It is still unclear what exactly Van de Veer will do besides his television work. The goal on Saturday was to look back and celebrate.

It happened in complications. In a Superman suit, Van de Veer sprinted over his audience’s heads toward the stage, where he was presented with a huge purple ball. Every time he clicks on it, a guest appears. From Sam Gooris and Van Echelpoel who came to sing their songs to Ingeborg and her son, MNM DJ Robin Keyaert, who came to present a large bowl of chocolate as a gift.

The Girlfriends Club also had its moment. Dressed in the Donald Trump outfit she once had for a month, Julie van den Steen treated Nasrin Knopps to the Sportpaleis to the rose bed of her champ Bon Jovi. Eva Daeleman and Lieselot Ooms, first side friends, left a video message for Van de Veer. His last lieutenants, Kawthar Halalush and Wan Sinaf, sang a surprise song along with other MNM presenters.

What Van de Veire does, Niels Destadsbader can do too. During DJ Reggie’s set, he allowed himself to soar above the crowd with a cable, and he flew across the room. On the ground floor, the singer slipped and fell, but automatically incorporated that into his show.
