The new school year begins today in China with a renewed curriculum that incorporates the ideas of President Xi Jinping. Chinese children did receive national and political lessons, but were less focused on Xi’s ideas and thoughts.
Thus schoolchildren and students will learn about the political ideology of their boss. “This sowed the seeds of love in the hearts of young people for the Communist Party, the country and socialism,” the government said.
Primary education textbooks include chapters on the achievements of Chinese civilization and the role of the Communist Party in fighting poverty and the coronavirus. It also contains quotes from Xi and anecdotes about the president. “Grandpa Xi Jinping is very busy at work. No matter how busy he is, he still takes part in our activities and cares about our growth,” one of the books reads verbatim.
The Communist Party usually adopts the ideologies of Chinese leaders, but it is not as common for their names to be associated with them in the long term as it is now with Xi. According to the BBC, he was preceded only by Mao Zedong, the founder of present-day China, and Deng Xiaoping. Since 2018, Xi no longer has to abide by the maximum terms of office, and so he can continue to rule indefinitely.
