Christophe Dain will no longer be an assistant at KV Kortrijk, the Red Lanterns of the Jupiler Pro League have announced. D'Haene was hired as assistant for only 3 months. “I am now choosing my family, and it is a difficult choice.”
Christoph Dane has been a strongman at KV Kortrijk for many years. He was included in the coaching staff by former coach Glenn de Boeck in October. At the beginning of the new year, Dahaene announced that he would be leaving his position as assistant.
“A few weeks before the new year I felt a little lacking in enthusiasm and passion,” Dane explains. “I don't know why. My last game was in April and after that I didn't want to do anything in football for a year.”
“Then Glenn de Boeck asked me to come back as an assistant. I wanted to take this step so that I would have no regrets afterwards. But the enthusiasm and passion were not there.”
“I think you have to think about yourself every now and then. My family also suffers from this, after many years of professional football. Now I choose for my family, and it is a difficult choice.”
The 33-year-old Dane played 241 times for Kortrijk between 2015 and 2023. This summer, he went on a brief venture to SK Rosselare, in the amateur third division, but hung up his boots in October. The defender has been suffering from hip problems for some time.
Glen De Boeck was fired from Kortrijk at the beginning of December. The Icelander Freyr Alexandersson became his successor. Kortrijk is in 16th and last place in the Jupiler Pro League with 10 points after 20 matches.
“I hope Kortrijk can work with the new coach and assistant. There is a new atmosphere. I am the club's number one supporter.”
