A group of New York collectors has bought a unique album of hip-hop group Wu Tang Clan for $4 million (€3.4 million). The team hopes to one day be able to share the rarely played album that wows many of the band’s fans.
And the US court announced at the end of July that the album “Once Upon a Time in Shaolin” had been auctioned. The album was confiscated after Martin Shkreli, an American entrepreneur active in the pharmaceutical and financial sectors, was convicted of fraud. He bought the album just before it fell. At first, the buyers were kept secret, but now they’ve revealed themselves anyway.
In a video posted online on Wednesday, PleasrDAO now says they’ve purchased the 31-track album, and there is only one copy left. PleasrDAO is a collection of “non-replaceable tokens”, or NFTs, collectors. NFTs use blockchain technology to record ownership of photos, videos, and collectibles.
The group bought the album for $ 4 million, according to various American media reports, PleasrDAO retweeted his articles. The group is already known to NFT collectors for buying digital works from US whistleblower Edward Snowden or feminist punk group Pussy Riot.
The online video shows one of the leaders of the PleasrDAO, Jamis Johnson, opening the precious silver case containing the album and book. Then he opens a bottle of champagne and listens to the album with headphones.
The unique version of the double album was recorded in the late 2000s and early 2000s by the Wu-Tang Clan, a legendary hip-hop group that criticized the hard life in New York’s Staten Island neighborhood and used samples of kung fu films. . They wanted to file a lawsuit that music was losing value through live broadcasting and piracy, and to protect the business. A provision prohibiting album marketing for 88 years, until 2103.
But PleasrDAO now says on its website that it hopes to get the album out soon. “While we are bound by the legal agreement accompanying this artwork, and may not be able to copy and share the music in digital form, we believe there are ways to share this musical artwork with the entire world to share,” the team writes.
