After introducing the Tavascan electric SUV coupe, Cupra continues to revamp its range with not one, not two, but three facelifts! The Leon, Leon Sportstourer and Formentor have been renewed for 2024. Externally, they all receive the same treatment: a new nose that looks more aggressive, a new triangular light signature front and rear, and a slightly redesigned rear bumper with flares. Cobra logo from now on on the bag. This makes the models even more different from parent brand Seat.
More characters for Cobra Formentor and Leon
The same applies on board in all three cases. There we mainly find a larger 12.9-inch central touchscreen, equipped with a new infotainment system. The new touchscreen is still accompanied by touch sliders for volume and temperature, but at least it's now backlit. But in terms of engines, there is some difference between the Formentor, Leon Hatchback and Leon Sportstor…
Up to 333 hp!
Under the hood of the Cupra Formentor, the initial version still has a 1.5 TSI engine with 110 kW (150 hp), mated to a six-speed manual gearbox. The petrol engine can also be a mild hybrid, meaning it's immediately mated to a DSG automatic transmission. The Spanish SUV can also be equipped with a 2.0 TSI engine with 150 kW (204 hp) or 195 kW (265 hp). The engine is always paired with a 7-speed DSG automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. The Formentor is also still available in diesel, with a 110 kW (150 hp) 2.0 TDI engine and a DSG automatic transmission. Finally, there is now also the same 2.0 TSI engine from the latest Audi S3, with 245 kW (333 hp) and even a new torque vectoring differential on the rear axle!
Now more than 100 kilometers of electric autonomy
With plug-in hybrids, or eHybrid with Cupra, the Formentor has not one, but two engines. The Spanish SUV is available with powerful 150 kW (204 hp) or 200 kW (272 hp) hybrid engines, which mainly have a new 19.7 kWh battery. This means that the Cupra Formentor eHybrid has an all-electric driving range of more than 100 km. This battery can also fast charge with a maximum charging capacity of 50 kilowatts with direct current (DC), or 11 kilowatts with alternating current (AC).
Unique engine for the Leon Hatchback
The updated Cupra Leon hatchback and station wagon are entitled to the same 1.5 TSI, 2.0 TDI and plug-in hybrid engines as in the Formentor. The Leon and Leon Sportstourer also achieve an electric autonomy of more than 100 km. But although the car can also be equipped with a 2.0 TSI engine with 150 kW (204 hp) or 245 kW (333 hp), the hatchback will have to rely on a modified version of the latter engine that produces only 221 kW (300 hp). It is sent to the front wheels via a 7-speed DSG gearbox and a limited-slip differential.
The facelifted Leon, Leon Sportstorer and Formentor are still produced in Barcelona, more specifically at the brand's headquarters in Martorell. It will be launched during the third quarter of 2024.
