Antwerp finished the match against Club Brugge with ten goals after Denis Odoi’s second yellow card. However, coach Jonas de Roeck defends the number of yellow cards Odoi receives.
Against Charleroi and Anderlecht, Denis Odoi was shown a yellow card in extra time. Against Club Brugge, the 36-year-old defender received his first yellow card in the 21st minute and was allowed to shower in the 87th minute after receiving a second yellow card.
Odoi has already picked up a lot of cards in his first four games. Shouldn’t we expect more control from a 36-year-old? “Dennis brings power, not only in matches, but also in training,” says Jonas de Roeck.
De Rock refers to the judgement of Dhondt.
“What’s wrong with being so intense if it’s true? Odoi is very intense in his actions, but he never does it with the wrong intention. The first yellow card he got was not true, because Doumbia was stopped incorrectly and we lost the ball.”
However, De Rock also took aim at referee Lothar Dhondt. “In a top-of-the-table game you have to give cards at the right time. In games like this you shouldn’t throw cards. Just keep it low-key and talk to the players.”
“The first card is very easy, I don’t think it’s necessary in this type of game. With the second yellow card, it’s not necessary to bring that force, but I don’t hold him responsible for that. Odoi says he doesn’t do that. “I don’t know man what’s wrong with that?”
