De Vliekotter primary school in Oosterend (Texel) has a big problem at the start of the next school year. The school is too small to accommodate all the children. The school’s foundation, Cobwerk, wants to place emergency containers near the school. Only a permit has not yet been arranged. According to the principal, Flor Diemen, the municipality is very slow in arranging the environmental permit. NH Nieuws reports this.
Daimen is at a loss before the start of the new school year. The school in Osterend has welcomed many new students in recent years. A temporary classroom was previously set up in the school hall. The school is now completely too small.
Emergency rooms
That’s why the school team asked the municipality earlier this year if it would be possible to set up additional temporary classrooms on the football pitch of the Osterund Sports Association. The school will soon start the new school year with 135 students. According to the principal, that number will rise to 160 students later in the year.
Temporary classrooms are needed to allow the school to be renovated in the meantime. “The school has become too small, and the children no longer fit in the building,” says Daimen. The aim is to create emergency classrooms next to the children’s home in De Pepermolen.
The permit takes a long time.
Unfortunately, the permit was delayed. “The temporary classrooms will be installed after the summer break. Everyone in the city council knew about it,” says Damon.
The environmental permit was submitted three weeks before the start of the summer vacation. “Then we asked if we could install emergency classrooms in advance, but that was not allowed. So we cannot start the new school year in temporary classrooms.” This is a big problem, according to the principal, because the school building is full.
