A week ago, Ronnie Deila’s position was openly questioned after a painful defeat to Club Brugge in Kortrijk, but the world now looks very different. On Thursday, the club gave itself some oxygen with a 1-3 win in Lugano, and now they are also starting to win the championship again.
An important win was also achieved on Sunday afternoon, as Antwerp were defeated at the Jan Breidel Stadium. After a very exciting match, the club won 2-1 thanks to a late goal scored by Hans Vanaken.

Ronnie Deila had nothing but praise for his captain. “Hans is an amazing player. It is clear that everyone knows his qualities,” the coach said on the club’s website. “He drives calmly and intelligently, and has excellent passing and finishing qualities. I am very grateful to be able to coach these players.”
But Vanaken wasn’t the only one scoring points with his coach. Much has been said and written about Brugge’s strikers in recent weeks, but both were decisive on Sunday. Gutgla opened the scoring intelligently, while substitute Igor Thiago provided the assist to make it 2-1.

“Ferran, for his part, has been out of action for a long time and needs time to get back to his best level,” Deila said. “He already knew on Wednesday that he would start today and was well prepared.”
“As far as Igor is concerned, there are still ups and downs. He still has to learn how to deal with the pressure of a big team and he also has to get used to a higher level.”
