There is a lot to be said about the quality of the game at the European Championships in Germany. Many fans are annoyed by the way some of the (big) teams have presented themselves. Consider countries like England and France, who despite their poor performances managed to qualify for the semi-finals.
In Sporza, Philipp Joss sheds light on the so-called lower level. The commentator finds the criticism often unjustified and says he enjoys it: “I enjoyed Switzerland, Austria and Turkey.”
He is less positive about Portugal under former Belgium coach Roberto Martinez, believing: “Unfortunately, Martinez doesn’t have a personality in Portugal. He has given himself to Ronaldo, but he has a great team. The goals don’t say it all, the Portugal-France game was great. We don’t always see one chance after another, that’s international football.”
Finally, he returns to the performance of the Red Devils and Kevin De Bruyne in particular: “This is also football. We spoiled City Ball, but sometimes I like the fact that there is something else. For example, I enjoy Kevin De Bruyne, he reminds me of those in Genk and in Germany with their less talented teammates. “It is not always possible to go further in this,” he concludes.
