A country where mosquitoes do not live: It sounds like a dream that is too good to be true. However, there is a travel destination where this is actually the case. And yes, this destination is also incredibly beautiful!

While we love the sun, the sea and the holidays, the countless mosquitoes that bother us in the evenings – and at night when you’re having a good nap – can be a nuisance. But what if you could go on holiday without all those critters? There’s a travel destination that’s going viral on TikTok, not because of its gorgeous views or picturesque villages, but for one reason: No mosquitoes!

The destination is much closer than you think. It’s about the beautiful, amazing Iceland. When we say there are no mosquitoes, we really mean there are none! At least not alive. The only mosquito discovered by a scientist in the 1980s can still be admired in a museum in Iceland.

But why is this? A large part of it is undoubtedly due to Iceland’s changeable climate. The weather can change so quickly that mosquitoes don’t have time to adjust. And there are no poisonous snakes or spiders, so what are you waiting for?

Although of course we have to clarify that a little. It is true that there are no mosquitoes in Iceland, but you will find a lot of annoying flies, and some of them may bite you. Fortunately, their bites are not as itchy as mosquito bites! They mainly occur along meadows where cattle or horses are raised.

Besides the fact that Iceland is completely free of mosquitoes and snakes, it is also simply beautiful. The unique nature with glaciers and hot springs is breathtakingly beautiful. Add to that Midsummer Night’s, which means it hardly ever gets dark at night during the summer, so you can enjoy the gorgeously colorful sky all night long, and the picture is complete!
