Dimitri van den Berg (29) was unbeaten in New Zealand. ‘Dancing Timmy’ had already lost to home player Haubai Buha in the first round of the New Zealand Darts Masters. Ahead of the match, van den Berg got a new tattoo. There is also a good story behind the painting.
Van den Bergh turned to tattoo artist Kimball Roberts for his latest acquisition. Roberts painted a griduhi on our companion’s left calf. It is the traditional tattoo of the Maori, but Maori are not the only ones allowed to have them. It is a way to open up to people from all corners of the world.
No two krituhi should be alike. The map tells the unique story of its bearer, in this case van den Bergh’s – in the visual language of Maori. From life’s unique moments to looks to family: all these can be discussed in a Krituhi.
“I’m honored to be able to give you this tattoo,” said Roberts van den Berg. “It’s been a pleasure getting to know you and learning more about your background. I hope the tattoo reminds you of who you are, who you love and the journey you’ve already been on. All the best in everything that comes your way.” Good luck.”
However, van den Berg was not successful with the new tattoo. On Friday morning ‘Dancing Timmy’ lost the first round of the New Zealand Darts Masters to home player – and Nobel unknown – Haubai Buha 2-6. Even if he leaves, van den Berg will be on the other side of the world for a while. He heads to Australia for the New South Wales Masters (August 11 and 12) in Wollongong. It remains to be seen whether our countryman will be more successful. He already has a unique memento of his journey on his calf.
