The Dutch F-16s promised to Ukraine by Defense Minister Kaisa Ollongren will enter the Ukrainian army next summer.
On March 19, Ukraine's allies gathered in Ramstein, Germany, for a UDCG meeting. Here they discussed the future of aid to Ukraine. Dutch Defense Minister Kaisa Ollongren spoke here about the 350 million euro support package that she announced a day later in the Ukrainian capital.
200 million of the support package will be spent on the so-called Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Drones (ISR Drones). The remaining 150 million will be added Air directed to the ground Missiles that can be used with F-16s have been consumed. The €350 million is part of the previously announced €2 billion support package. The Ministry of Defense announced this in a press release.
Ukraine has long requested additional support because it faces serious shortages. The country hopes the promised F-16s will help achieve this. In Kiev, Ollongren said the promised Dutch F-16s would be deployed in Ukraine next summer.
'I'm very confident that we will be able to deliver F-16s next summer… first to Denmark, and we have a schedule… so in the second half of the year the Dutch F-16s will come on that route.
European allies face great difficulty in providing military support to Ukraine. President of the European Commission, Ursula von der LeyenHe called on European Union countries to spend more on defense. She also promised to create a special position for Defense Commissioner if she is re-elected in the upcoming European elections. There is a preference for an Eastern European candidate for this role, according to von der Leyen.
