Erik Van Looy has been the presenter of “The Smartest Man in the World” for 19 out of 20 seasons, and remains the funniest audition on Flemish television. In all those years she’s already been through a lot with the candidates. On MNM, he tells us about the one episode that was never broadcast.
“There wasn’t a single episode that wasn’t aired. That was before my time,” Eric begins by saying. “That was the third or fourth episode of season one. I don’t really know if I can say that. Then there was someone who did it so badly that they thought, ‘We can’t broadcast this.'”
“And then they re-recorded episode four and then let the guy who won come back and everything. So not a single episode of ‘De Slimste Mens’ ever aired,” says Eric.
It doesn’t matter at all
Who had this very bad test remains a big secret to this day. “I don’t know who I was either, but it was someone who wasn’t well known,” Eric says. “But I think it was a professor or something. At the time we thought something like that was really bad, but now we know it didn’t matter at all. But now I said a lot already.”
