D for diameter: Is the spot larger than six millimeters?

Prediction of metastasis

Remco van Doorn knows more about skin cancer and is a principal investigator at Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC), with a special focus on skin cancer. He also works at the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek Hospital – Netherlands Cancer Institute (AVL/NKI) and is a member of the Advisory Board of the Melanoma Foundation. He explains what other important signals are when looking at skin cancer: “The thickness of the melanoma is an important indicator of metastasis. The thinner and sooner the melanoma is detected, the better,” says Van Doorn.
