Shenmue fans rented advertising space in Times Square to draw attention to the demand Shenmo 4. Game 3 ended on a cliffhanger, so fans are left with an unfinished story, something they’d like to see changed.
The first two Shenmue games were released for Sega’s Dreamcast and although they became cult classics, they didn’t do well enough commercially. For the third game, creator Yu Suzuki turned to Kickstarter, where $6.3 million was raised, the largest amount ever for a game on the crowdfunding platform.
So obviously there are a lot of fans who would be more than happy to donate money for Shenmue 4, but at the moment there is no indication that this will be done. That’s why fan site Shenmie Dojo has now released a 15-second commercial in Times Square to bring attention back to the series.
You might think that a movie like this in Times Square would cost a lot of money, but depending on the time of day and such, it’s not that bad. For example, fans only had to pay $40 for these 15 seconds.
