Hackers have now attacked our country's largest coffee roasting company. This was confirmed by the police and the Antwerp Public Prosecutor's Office after they began the investigation. Its consequences are not yet clear.
The hacking occurred a day after hackers targeted its neighbour, Brouwerij Duvel Moortgat. There, “ransomware” or hostage software completely paralyzed production at five different locations. A day and a half later, news came that Duvel could be produced again. There has not yet been any information about the resumption of production at other sites in Oudenaarde (Lifmans), Antwerp (Boleke de Koninck), Achüf (La Schöf) and in Kansas City, USA (known in our country for its Tank 7 beer). ). to update. But as well as Duvel Moortgat, the Beyers coffee roaster along the A12 was also targeted.
ransom?
According to our information, the police were notified last Thursday afternoon. This is also what spokesman Dirk van de Sande says. “Immediately after the report, local investigators from LCCU arrived (Local Computer Crimes Unit, ed.) He went to the site to make the necessary assessments. “They are in close contact with their colleagues from the Federal Police,” says the police spokesman. The Antwerp Public Prosecutor's Office has also now been informed. It is still unknown whether it is the same ransomware as with Duvel and whether the ransom and information were stolen here as well.
The coffee roasting company was asked to respond, but was not yet available for comment. It is currently unknown if the same cybercriminals are behind the Beyers Koffie hack. It was announced yesterday that the pro-Russian hacker group Stormous Group had claimed responsibility for the cyberattack, although the prosecutor's office and the brewery neither wanted to confirm nor deny this. The hacker group also claimed that it plans to release important documents soon. Just yesterday, it emerged that production at one of the largest glass manufacturers Sprimoglass in Liège had also been halted due to a cyberattack.
The police and the Public Prosecutor's Office are now fully continuing the investigation into the hacking operation.
