No UEFA Women’s Champions League Anderlecht

RSC Anderlecht women’s team was unable to qualify for the second (and final) Champions League qualifying round, as Purple & White lost 1-0 in the Group 3 final in the first qualifying round against Croatia’s Osijek. Lojna (54.) gave the Croatian the lead shortly after the break, after which Tessa Wallart and her companions received no response.

Head coach Johan Walem on Wednesday settled in Osijek, where Anderlecht’s first qualifying round was held, against Armenian club Hayasa with a 3-0 victory in the final of the preliminary round. Osijek beat ZFK Breznica of Montenegro 5-0 in the semi-finals. 24 teams participate in the second (and final) preliminary round. The draw is scheduled for Sunday.

Lommel beats Mouscron

Lommel won by the smallest difference in Mouscron on day two of the Pro League 1B. The Limburgers won 0-1. Koki Saito scored the only goal from a penalty kick after 35 minutes. No other goals were scored. These are the first three points of the season for Lommel. Mouscron has not been able to collect points yet.

Earlier on Saturday, Lommel announced the appointment of Dutchman Peter van der Veen as the new coach. He was already interim coach of Limburg 1B after the departure of England’s Liam Manning about ten days ago.

RSCA is not happy with the song fans

In recent weeks, it has occasionally happened that a minority of Anderlecht supporters sing the misplaced song “All farmers are gay”. They do so to pay tribute to Benito Raman, who raised these words six years ago and then was suspended from AA Gent for a while. Anderlecht will indicate at upcoming meetings with the Fan Board that they no longer want to hear the song. Pro League and KBVB will appreciate it too. Otherwise, penalties are not excluded. (PJC)

Lommel retains confidence in coach Peter van der Veen

Lommel SK has appointed Peter van der Veen as its new coach. He was already interim coach of Limburg 1B after the departure of England’s Liam Manning about ten days ago. Van der Veen today signed his new contract. “Of course I already know the essence of a talented player very well and I can’t wait to keep working,” says the 49-year-old Rotterdamer, who joined Lommel in 2020 and was a T2 from Manning.

Van der Veen has captained several Dutch national youth teams in the past. In 2019 he won the European Championship with Orange U-17s and reached the semi-finals of the World Cup. Prior to that, he worked at the Ajax Youth Academy. Last week, Van der Veen was off the bench for the first time in T1 during the opening match day against Waasland-Beveren. That match lost 2-3. Today, Lommel travels to Mouscron.

Venezuela coach resigns shortly before World Cup qualifiers

Venezuela national team coach Jose Peseiro has resigned his resignation two weeks before the crucial World Cup qualifiers. Peseiro says the FA has not received its salaries and staff on time.

The Portuguese, the former coach of Sporting Portugal and FC Porto, has been the national coach of Venezuela since February 2020. Venezuela will meet Argentina in the preliminary round of the World Cup in South America on September 2. Then there will be duels with Peru (September 5) and Paraguay (September 9).

“We spoke to him last night and made it clear to him that it is very difficult to accept his resignation with important matches on the schedule,” Venezuelan Football Federation president Jorge Jimenez said in a statement. “He has asked for some time and today we are informed that he and his crew have decided not to proceed.”

Venezuela is the only country in South America that has never qualified for the World Cup. Now the country is in the penultimate position after six matches. The top four teams out of a total of ten countries automatically qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Player number five can still qualify through play-off matches.
