At the age of 32, Toby Alderwild leaves for Qatari club Al-Duhail SC for one last adventure. Now Alderwild is not the first “ex” Red Devil to choose an adventure outside of Europe at the end of his life.
Stein Hughes Gems (Wellington Phoenix – New Zealand)
In addition to Asia and Africa, the (former) Red Devils also reached Australia. In 2012, Stein Hughes decided to play for New Zealand ‘s Wellington Phoenix in the Australian A-League. Like Alderwild, Mousa Tempel has in the past opted to leave Tottenham for an adventure outside of Europe. After 249 appearances for the English club, Dembele left for the Chinese club Guangzhou R&F. The Chinese transferred 12 million euros to Tottenham.
Marune Fellaini (Shandong Luneng Tyshan – China)
Like Moussa Tempel, Marouane Fellaini switched to the Chinese tournament in 2019. Since Yannick Karasco had already played in China, he became the third Red Devil in the Chinese Super League. He had a good first season with Shandong Luneng Taishan, in which he scored twelve times and provided five assists. Last season, Fellaini won the Chinese Cup, his first prize at the club.
Thomas Vermaelen (Whistle Kobe – Japan)
After a career at various top clubs such as Ajax, Arsenal and FC Barcelona, Vermaelen decided to move to Japan in 2019. F.C.
