The name of former Miss Belgium Julie Taton (MR) is widely known in Wallonia. For the moment, she will not be allocated a place of residence in Bergen, the city where she wants to perform. However, the chairman of the board, Georges-Louis Bouchez (MR), has already put her on the MR list in Mons and Meaux.
In the news: Bushes thinks there’s no problem.
- Last week, the Bergen administration refused to approve Julie Taton’s direct debit. In order to run for election on the Mons en Mieux list, she had to move from Walloon Brabant to the capital Hainaut. Taton was to move into an apartment owned by Bouches. But when the police officer came to see if she was home, Taton was not there. Her application was provisionally rejected.
- This led to a tirade from President Bouchez on X. The duty officer was running for the Socialist Party elections and checking the Communist Movement candidates at the most impossible time. Bouchez explained that Julie Taton was on leave during the vetting process.
- He doesn’t seem to be backing down: Taton should be on the list and will remain so. “There’s no reason to change the list, because we’re within our rights,” says Bouchez.
Initial application in July
the details: The procedure continues for some time.
- Election law requires candidates to be resident in the place where they want to run by July 31. Taton reported her change of address on July 14. On August 1, she received a letter saying her registration had been rejected. It also included advice to register again.
- Bouchez has applied to the Interior Ministry, because he believes the refusal is unjustified. He is betting that he will be right and that the date of the initial application will then be counted.
- As for Tatton, it remains to be seen whether it will be allowed to remain standing. The Bergen department wants to present the full program on September 8.
