Of course everyone already knew: Hein Vanhaezebrouck would say goodbye to KAA Gent after this season. And now the club has officially announced it. Vanhisbrouck himself also insisted on writing a farewell letter to the fans.
Dear buffalo,
My biggest goal as a coach is not to achieve success, play attractive attacking football, improve players, launch young people, create a great team, or professionalize sporting activities. My biggest goal has always been to make sure you, the fans, are happy.
The second period was much more difficult than the first
During the countless wonderful moments that happened during my two spells at KAA Gent, I enjoyed them most when I could see – from the background – our players celebrating, my cheering team members and especially our enthusiastic fans enjoying Gentoise. Especially since in the past, the people of Ghent never thought this was possible.
The second period requires a lot of energy from everyone. From myself too. The task was much more difficult than my first pass. A lot had to be corrected, and then there were the Covid years without supporters. However we have managed to get a European ticket every year.
We also won the Belgian Cup after defeating Club Brugge and Anderlecht. I thought we had finally recovered this season and could once again compete for top honors, but that turned out to be a wrong assessment. It was difficult for me, the staff and the players, and it was no different for the fans.
I certainly won’t leave with any disagreements with the club or Sam Barrow
After the season, my story with Jeantoise is now over. An end to my greatest goal of seeing the Buffaloes, who have become a part of my life, happy. I’m certainly not leaving in disagreement with the club or with Sam Barrow, as is sometimes said or wrongly written.
We sat around the table as reasonable people and the decision was made. I wish KAA Gent, Sam, his new management team, the new coach and everyone who will be involved the best of luck in the coming years.
Thank you to Chairman Evan De Wit for making this possible throughout my two terms. Thank you to all Buffalo fans, especially those who continue to support their club even in difficult times. Thank you to all the employees who work sincerely and pour their hearts into the club. Without you, smooth organization is impossible. Thanks also to all the club’s partners, big and small, because without you there would be no football.
I thank all staff and close colleagues during my two terms in office. It was truly a pleasure to be able to work with so many professional people in such a warm way. I hope the new managers don’t forget this too. Thanks to the Greenkeepers led by Mathis who have proven they can provide great fields if given the means to do so, as they are now.
Thanks to the heads of departments, with whom I always had a great feeling and who were always ready to support us. Thanks to the city of Ghent and the police who were always ready to serve their buffaloes
