Google has released the first Android 12L beta for many Pixel series phones. Android 12L includes optimizations for large-screen devices, such as foldable devices and tablets, but the operating system is also available for “regular” smartphones.
Google reports in a Reddit post The first beta version of Android 12L will be available for phones in the Pixel 3a, 4, 4a, 5 and 5a series. A beta version for the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro will follow “soon,” according to a tech giant’s report. Users who previously subscribed to the Android 12 beta program and did not choose to opt out, will get the Android 12L beta over the air-Update. Previous beta testers who don’t want to try out Android 12L can decline the update and exit the beta program without having to wipe their device.
Google announced Android 12L Officially in October. This operating system gets improvements for devices with large screens including foldable devices and tablets. For example, the Notifications overview is split into two columns. Google is also making interface changes to the settings menu, lock screen, and more. The operating system also gets a taskbar that can be used to switch between applications more easily.
Developers have been able to try out Android 12L with an Android Studio emulator for quite some time now. There was already a beta version available for the Lenovo Tab P12 Pro tablet. This is the first time that Google has released a beta version of Android 12L for smartphones. However, Pixel users can test a few of the above improvements, as they require a larger screen.
