Google is launching its new mid-range smartphone, the Pixel 8a, which will cost 549 euros. Like the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, the 8a comes with seven years of updates, which include security updates and Android version upgrades.
The Pixel 8a, like the Pixel 7a, has a 6.1-inch OLED display with a resolution of 2400 x 1080 pixels, covered with Gorilla Glass 3. The refresh rate has been increased from 90 Hz to 120 Hz, and according to Google, the screen is 40 percent brighter , making it brighter. Peak brightness of 2000 cd/m². The Pixel 8a’s body has rounded corners, an aluminum frame, and a back made of largely recycled plastic. The smartphone will be available in black, white and two new colours: Bay Blue and Aloe. While the Pixel 7a has the same Tensor G2 soc as the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro, the Pixel 8a is equipped with the Tensor G3 that was previously found in the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro. According to previous rumors, the 8a has a version of the Tensor G3 with a different package, which may throttle faster than more expensive devices. The 8a also has 8GB lpddr5x RAM and 128GB or 256GB UFS 3.1 storage. The larger storage option is new compared to the 7a. The Pixel 8a’s 4,492 mAh battery can be charged wirelessly or wired at 18W.
The Pixel 8a’s camera hardware is unchanged from the Pixel 7a: a 64-megapixel main camera with optical stabilization and a 13-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera without autofocus. There is a 13-megapixel front camera. Of course, the Pixel 8a once again has AI functions like Best Take, Super Res Zoom, Magic Editor, and Audio Magic Eraser. Search circle function is also available.
The Pixel 8a will start at €549 in Belgium and the Netherlands, which is €40 more than the Pixel 7a at launch. The device can now be pre-ordered and will be available physically starting May 14. In the Netherlands, the Pixel 8a, Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro will also be sold at Vodafone and KPN, as previously leaked. Of the three major providers, customers could previously only contact Odido for Pixel devices. Media Markt will also sell Pixel phones and related accessories in the Netherlands.
