Kevin De Bruyne is not going through the happiest period of his career. In June he finally won the Champions League, but in the final against Inter he had to leave after 36 minutes due to a hamstring injury. He appeared to be free of that in the summer, until disaster struck again in the opening round of the Premier League.
At Burnley, De Bruyne was substituted again after 23 minutes with the same hamstring injury and we haven’t seen him on a football pitch since. It soon became clear that he would have to be out of action for a long time, and our compatriot also underwent surgery.
Guardiola comes with an update
Meanwhile, De Bruyne has been out of action for more than two months. His absence is keenly felt by both the Red Devils and Manchester City. So the countdown to his return is on, but it doesn’t look like we should expect it anytime soon.
Pep Guardiola on Friday issued an update that does not bode well. In his press conference, he was asked about the City Clinic. “It’s all good, no problems. Just Kevin…” It sounded ominous. “I don’t know when he will come back.”
It is certain that De Bruyne will not return before the New Year
At City they will not take any chances with their 32-year-old captain, after he relapsed in the summer. There seems to be no chance of seeing him in action before the New Year. But a question mark remains over when De Bruyne will return in 2024.
This may not be bad news for the Red Devils, as it means the captain may still be active when the European Championship begins. But hopefully KDB will have enough match rhythm by then.
