HAVO Physics Tutor allows students to change answers while taking an exam.

The final exam for Physics at HAVO level was held on Tuesday, July 2nd in all schools in Suriname. Recently, irregularities were discovered in one of the schools during the assessment of the exam work by the subject teacher SR

After a comprehensive investigation by the Inspectorate of Secondary Education at the Higher Level (VOS), the teacher fully admitted to these violations.

S.R. stated that during the inspection, he offered the students the opportunity to write down their answers. He gave another group of students a correction form so that they could correct and write down their answers.

A survey was also conducted among a group of students and their exam papers were examined. These students confirmed that they benefited from the teacher’s offer, according to the Ministry of Education.

On Friday 12 July, the situation that arose was discussed with parents and students in the presence of the Inspectorate and the Ministry’s management. The Ministry deeply regrets this incident, as integrity is an essential part of education. The Ministry is committed to providing a fair and transparent educational environment and this type of behaviour is unacceptable.

The Ministry decided:

  1. Cancel the exam result in the classes taught by teacher SRS
  2. To maintain the results of the general examinations for this category of students
  3. Don’t cross out students.
  4. Use a different exam and corrector for these students.
  5. The exam for the group of students will be held on July 22nd.
  6. Suspension of the lecturer pending investigation

The ministry hopes that the participating students will be aware of their actions and have learned a life lesson. In addition, it wants the students to successfully pass the test with their own knowledge and skills.

We urgently appeal to teachers to refrain from such behaviour and not to engage in unacceptable behaviour under any circumstances. The Ministry warned that it will not hesitate to take disciplinary action.
