“Headbangers: Rhythm Royale”: A little bit of headbangers but a lot of fun | games

Game reviewIn the funny game ‘Headbangers: Rhythm Royale’, you’ll compete as a pigeon against other pigeons in tons of musical mini-games. These can be AI pigeons, but also other players or even your friends. Bring on that game night!

During four rounds of all kinds of randomly selected musical mini-games, your memory will be tested, but also your reaction speed, reflexes and of course your sense of rhythm. You can unlock additional bonuses, but be careful… sometimes these bonuses can be unfavorable as well. Sometimes, on the other hand, you are a liability to your opponents. One of the mini-games is a kind of “follow the boss” and the drawback is that you are temporarily no longer able to see the boss, which of course makes it difficult to follow him.

If you do well, you can unlock an extra round which is actually the only round in which something resembling a headbutt should happen. In this sense, the name of the game may be a bit misleading.

Elimination race

Each round is actually an elimination race in which the best survive. You start in the first round with 30 pigeons/player. The ten pigeons with the lowest points are eliminated. In the second round, only the top 10 survivors out of 20 are allowed to continue. This leaves us with 10, 5 of whom will lose weight again. In the fourth and final round, 5 pigeons remain and the first one to make a mistake is eliminated until only one pigeon remains and is the winner.

Your pigeon gets crumbs as a reward. The number depends on your score during different consecutive rounds. With these crumbs, you can buy extras, such as a special outfit, a cool hat, a new mustache… You can also earn experience points and thus increase your level every time. With each level, you can unlock new clothes and other extras, and there are also rewards for specific achievements, so to speak.

Elvis dove

In one game, called “Guilty,” you have to choose the artist who will produce the music you hear on stage. We don’t always find it clear exactly what clothes are supposed to represent. There’s a Scottish pigeon, a pigeon version of Elvis, an exotic pigeon, etc… some other pigeons that we didn’t immediately realize exactly what they represented.

Visually it could be a little better here and there. Also found throughout the game are all kinds of references to old platformers and fighting games. This sometimes triggered some nostalgic musings in us, leaving us very distracted and harshly brought back to reality. not qualified!

“Headbangers: Rhythm Royale” is perfect for an evening with friends. Make sure to bring a controller to the party, because although this game can also be played using a keyboard, a controller is still more convenient.

Conclusion: 9/10

The creators playfully ask the age-old question “What goes into a pigeon’s head?” Finally the answer. Looking at the pigeons in our garden, I’m afraid they somewhat overestimate the qualities of these flying mice… but that’s up to you to judge for yourself, of course. Anyway, we can’t wait to compete with the rest of the pigeon groups online, because this fun and entertaining game is launching on October 31st.
