Hendrik van Crombrugge closed the door behind him at RSC Anderlecht last summer. Go to KRC Genk.
At the turn of the year, Hendrik van Crombrugge had to make way from RSC Anderlecht's starting lineup. Bart Verbruggen took his place. “This is not a decision that comes from one day to the next,” says van Crombrugge in Het Nieuwsblad's Jingle Balls. “Do I agree with this choice? No. Do I agree with the way things happened? No. With the timing? No.”
In fact, Van Crombrugge was the goalkeeping coach at Lotto Park for a while. So it's not all that clear. Although Verbruggen moved to Brighton, Van Crombrugge also left, signing with Genk until 2026.
“I felt like some people within the club took my professional position for granted, when it wasn't at all. If some people had shown more gratitude, I think I would still be at Anderlecht today.
“There was talk of leaving several times – PSV, among other things, were concrete – but when I extended my contract for five seasons, I thought I would play for Anderlecht for the rest of my career.” The last six months have certainly not been the easiest of my career, but I'm sure I've learned from them and it will pay off in the long run.
