On Saturday evening, Brusselmans gave a lecture on James Bond at the literary marathon in Rotterdam, in which he suggested that a fat, black lesbian actress play the action hero in a later film adaptation.
The new Bond could introduce himself with the phrase, “My name is Bond, nigga… James Bond, the damned.” After this use of the n-word, Dutch writers Bregje Hofstede and Alma Mathijsen angrily left the room.
When Hofstede had to perform later in the evening, she asked the festival organizer to distance herself from Brusselmans’ comments, or else she would not perform. According to Brusselmanns, Hofstede described him as a “racist and misogynist”. One of the organization’s employees told this to, according to Brusselmans, “to distance themselves from anyone who uses the n-word.”
in a interaction The East Flemish writer describes Hofstede as “a faultless mind, a compelling mink, who in Holland is a kind of spearhead for a sickly vigilant generation.”
Festival organization and Bregje Hofstede were not available for comment at this time.
