There is another debate about the goalkeeper at Anderlecht. Colin Coosmans is performing so well that getting a new goalkeeper is no longer a priority. Or is it? The former goalkeeping coach of the Purple and Whites, Frank Bouckx, has a clear opinion on the matter.
Coosmans has convinced all the doubters, including those within his own club. “For me, the question is not about Colin Coosmans, but about Mads Kikenborg, the young Danish player who is currently the second choice goalkeeper. Is he good enough to replace Coosmans if he falls?” said Boks. HLN.
Anderlecht therefore need a second goalkeeper. “The answer to this question will determine whether Anderlecht will get a new goalkeeper or not. Anderlecht will play in Europe again, which means they will have to play on Thursdays almost every week until February.”
“The physical stress is not so bad for goalkeepers, but there is always the risk of injury. Then you have to have a substitute on hand who does not make mistakes.”
Coosmans fits in well with the group, is perfectly two-footed, can play either ball or long and has proven to be unbeatable in one-on-one situations. That’s already a lot of what Anderlecht are asking of their No. 1.
“So much so that the question arises whether Anderlecht would be better off spending the budget on a new goalkeeper elsewhere. I think they would be better off looking for a replacement for Thorgan Hazard, who is still out for several months with a knee injury,” says Bouckx.
“I think they lack that creative profile. I think it’s unwise for Anderlecht to spend so much money on an expensive goalkeeper, when they have a good goalkeeper between the posts.” For example, Botez should always play if they spend millions on him.
