Hooverphonics managed to qualify for the Eurovision Song Contest final. The Belgian group survived the first semi-final with the song “The Wrong Place”.
Belgium ranked 11th in the first semi-final, between disco drones of Croatia and Israel.
Hooverphonic was marked by “the wrong place”: as one of the few engagements, there was a real band on stage, and with elegant dark acting, Hooverphonic was weird among the other color entries. Singer Geike Arnaert sang beautifully and the black dress with Swarowski crystals literally made her sparkle.

And it paid off: Saint Niklas’ group finished in the top ten out of sixteen semi-finalists, which enabled them to qualify for the Grand Final on Saturday.
There they are competing against the main candidates of Italy and France. The other two competitors will play Iceland and Switzerland in the second semifinals on Thursday.
How many points have hoover phonics collected and the countries with which they scored points will not be announced until after the final.
The other countries in the final are: Norway, Israel, Russia, Azerbaijan, Malta, Lithuania, Cyprus, Sweden and Ukraine.
